Born and raised in Pasadena, California in a Prairie style house designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Katie was exposed every day to the varied and rich architectural history that California had to offer. She was often picked up after school and brought to the Pasadena Art Museum where she did her daily homework in the courtyard while her mother assembled the latest art shows. A creative life was a foregone conclusion.
Katie went on to major in Fine Art at UC Santa Barbara, but made a detour into Business earning her B.S. in Business Administration from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. It was that right brain, left brain dichotomy inherited from her art world mother and her aero-space engineer father that caused the very creative but practical genes to emerge. Degree in hand, Katie moved to San Francisco, making forays into the worlds of marketing and fashion, only to discover her love of Interior Design through an evening class at a local college. A move to Louisiana to study design and a later move to San Diego completed Katie’s formal training, earning her a BFA in Interior Design from the Design Institute of San Diego.
Settling in Newport Beach, California, Katie began her career in Interior Design very happily soaking up the Southern California sun for a number of years. After meeting her future husband, Katie moved to Northern California where they started their family. Katie developed an expertise in Kitchen and Bath design and continued her career as the Senior Designer for a prestigious firm for many years before starting her own studio, Katie Denham Interiors, in 2006.
With over 20 years of Interior Design experience, Katie has completed creatively driven commercial, restaurant and residential projects, earning numerous ASID design awards and media mentions. Katie Denham Interiors prides itself on customer service and close coordination with architects, subcontractors and tradesmen to ensure a seamless design project execution with the main goal to consistently exceed clients’ expectations.
Katie lives in Sacramento, California in the heart of the state between the San Francisco Bay and the grand Sierra Mountains with her husband, two daughters and their Australian Shepherd, Cooper. Katie uses her spare time writing for her Design Blog, katiedid, hunting for antiques and art, cooking in her newly remodeled kitchen, gardening, and traveling for design inspiration.
